In The Loyal Digger, Sassa discovers that ANZAC dogs and people were so loyal as to sacrifice their lives for our freedom, so she goes and prepares poppies for the animal memorial. ‘Digger’ refers to the ANZAC soldiers who dug trenches for protection during World War I and to Sassa’s passion for digging holes.
